28 Point Tune Up Checklist
(Windows 98se, 2000, ME, and XP only). An Internet connection is
required for some of the services.
o Clean and test the keyboard.
o Clean, compact, and repair the registry if possible.
o Check for file errors and repair if possible.
o Check for updated device drivers and install if necessary.
o Clean, test, and adjust monitor if necessary.
o Clean the mouse.
o Delete cookie files.
o Delete history files.
o Delete temporary internet files.
o Delete unnecessary shortcuts from desktop and start menu.
o Defrag the hard drive to improve system performance. (Windows 2000, XP only)
o Remove unnecessary programs from starting.
o Test and clean the CD-ROM and or CD Burner.
o Test and clean the DVD-ROM and or DVD Burner.
o Test and clean the floppy drive, if available.
o Test laptop battery performance.
o Test the CPU.
o Test the hard drive.
o Test the memory.
o Test the modem and adjust if necessary.
o Test the network card and adjust if necessary.
o Test the parallel port.
o Test the printer.
o Test the serial port.
o Test the sound card, speakers, and microphone and adjust if necessary.
o Uninstall unnecessary programs.
o Update anti-spyware software, if available.
o Update anti-virus software, if available.
